Sweet & Sour Bratwurst

Shopping List

1 package of Fuge Bratwurst Sausages

8 pieces of bacon

1 medium onion, sliced, about 1 cup

1 red pepper, sliced

1 yellow pepper, sliced

1 cup ketchup

1/4 cup brown sugar

2 tablespoons red wine vinegar

1.5 cup water

 

Directions

  • Pan fry the bacon in skillet until desired doneness, set aside on paper towel
  • Gently brown the sausage over medium heat until casings are light brown, set aside
  • Drain off the fat, leaving about 1 tablespoon in the pan
  • Over medium heat add the onions and cook until soft, make sure to scrape the bottom of the pan as you are cooking
  • Add peppers and cook for another 5 minutes until soft
  • Stir in ketchup, vinegar, brown sugar and water. Bring to a gentle simmer and add the sausages.
  • Cook uncovered over low heat, stirring occasionally until sausages reach 160 degrees. 
  • Crumble bacon into the pan and mix together. 
  • Serve with rice or buttered noodles.
